1 · How to use the plans
- Pick one plan. Eight weeks if you can give 2 hours on weekdays and 2–3 at weekends; twelve weeks if you can give about 1.5 a day. Ticks save in this browser; the counter at the top shows progress.
- Every day has a fixed 30 minutes that is not listed: 10 min Anki (vocabulary from Module 06), 10 min pronunciation programme (Module 05 §5), 10 min English audio with shadowing. This is non-negotiable; it is what moves Speaking and Listening.
- "Module 02 §5" means section 5 of the Reading file. Section numbers match each file's sidebar.
- Writing must be marked by someone else at least once a week. Budget for a tutor or find an exchange partner; unmarked writing does not improve.
- Sunday is a rest day in both plans except for the fixed 30 minutes. A tired brain does not consolidate.

4 · Calculators
Raw score → band
Listening /40 → –
Academic Reading /40 → –
GT Reading /40 → –
Approximate conversions; official tables vary by version by about one raw mark.
Four bands → overall
L R W S
Average – → Overall band –
Rounding: .25 → .5, .75 → next whole; e.g. 7.75 → 8.0, 7.625 → 7.5, 7.875 → 8.0.
Bands → CLB (General Training, for Express Entry)
Uses the same four inputs as above.
| Module | Band | CLB |
|---|---|---|
| Listening | – | – |
| Reading | – | – |
| Writing | – | – |
| Speaking | – | – |
| Lowest CLB (what counts for eligibility) | – | |
CLB 9 = L8 R7 W7 S7 · CLB 10 = L8.5 R8 W7.5 S7.5 · CLB 7 = L6 R6 W6 S6. First-language points step up sharply at CLB 9 and 10 in every module.

Booking threshold: two consecutive tests with L ≥ 36, R ≥ 36, W ≥ 7.5, S ≥ 7.5.
6 · Booking in Dhaka
- Two providers: British Council Bangladesh and IDP Bangladesh. Same test, same marking, same result validity; choose by date, venue and computer/paper preference.
- Computer-delivered is recommended: results in 3–5 days rather than 13, typing is faster than handwriting for Writing, Listening has headphones, and the Reading interface lets you highlight. Available most days of the week in Dhaka. Practise on the free computer-delivered sample tests on the providers' sites first.
- Choose the right test: Academic for the university application; General Training for Express Entry. Many people sit both, a few weeks apart; Listening and Speaking are identical, and only Reading and Writing differ.
- Fee: roughly BDT 22,000–27,000 depending on provider and format; check the current price on the provider's site when booking. Rescheduling and cancellation have deadlines and charges.
- ID: a valid passport is the only accepted ID in Bangladesh; the same passport on test day. Check the expiry date.
- Speaking may be scheduled up to a week before or after the written test; you will be told the slot after booking, and can sometimes choose.
- Results: the Test Report Form (TRF) is valid for two years for both IRCC and universities. You get one original; additional copies can be sent directly to institutions (a set number free, then a fee). IRCC wants the TRF number, not a copy.
- One Skill Retake is now offered in many centres: if one module falls short, you can retake just that module within 60 days for a fee. Confirm that both IRCC and your target university accept OSR results at the time you book (IRCC does for Express Entry; some universities do not).
- Enquiry on Results (remark) costs a fee refunded if any score changes; most useful for Writing, where a half band is often at stake. Apply within the deadline (currently six weeks).
7 · Test day
The day before
- Passport out, in your bag. Printed or saved confirmation with the venue address and reporting time.
- Know the route; Dhaka traffic means leaving 90 minutes before you think you need to.
- No study after lunch. Sleep 8 hours; Listening is the first module and punishes fatigue.
Bring / don't bring
- Bring: passport, a transparent water bottle with the label removed. Paper test: pencils, eraser, sharpener (some centres supply).
- Don't: phone, watch, notes — everything goes in a locker. There is a clock in the room.
- Wear layers; test rooms are cold.
In the room
- Reporting time is usually 60–90 minutes before the test: registration, photograph, finger scan, security check. Use the toilet before; leaving during Listening is not allowed.
- Test the headphones during the sound check; raise your hand immediately if anything is wrong.
- Listening: read ahead in every gap; on computer, use the 2 minutes at the end to check spelling.
- Reading: 20 minutes per passage, move on when the time is up, answer every question.
- Writing: Task 2 first if you are a slow starter, or Task 1 first if you prefer — but never over 20 minutes on Task 1. Leave 3 minutes to proofread each.
- Speaking: arrive 30 minutes early; talk to someone in English beforehand; in the room, smile, sit up, and answer the first question at length to settle.
Passport (valid), confirmation, route, water bottle, layers — packed the night before.
Slept 8 hours; no study after lunch the day before; ate breakfast.
Arrived at reporting time; headphones checked; toilet before Listening.
8 · After the result
- Target met (8.0 overall, nothing under 7.5): add the TRF number to your Express Entry profile and university applications the same day. Note the two-year expiry; you may need a second test if the process runs long.
- One module short by 0.5: One Skill Retake (if accepted by your target) or a remark for Writing/Speaking. For Listening/Reading, a remark rarely changes anything; retake.
- More than one module short: retake the full test. Book 4–6 weeks out, use the weak-module week structure for the whole period, and get every essay marked externally.
- Second test still short in Writing only: this is the common pattern. Invest in a specialist Writing tutor for 4 weeks before a third attempt; the gap is usually Task Response and Coherence, not grammar.
